The Pension Calendar relaunch – How we got here

When it started

The Pension Calendar isn’t new news, every team I’ve worked in or with has always had some sort of document (usually a spreadsheet) where they track events. But it was either just events that they wanted to go, or only events that they knew about. When you’re planning your budget or your own events you need a list that’s bigger than that.

I kept hearing the same question from clients: ‘What events should I go to next?’
And every time, the answer lived across a messy mix of spreadsheets, emails, saved posts, and half-remembered links. So, The Pension Calendar was born – a single place where you can see the full picture of pension events.

Then Darren quite reasonably asked ‘Why are we not selling this’

One problem though...

Version one wasn’t perfect. Far from it. It was buggy, the membership felt more complicated than it should, and some features just didn’t go as far as we wanted – you couldn’t download events easily and the filters were basic.

The upside? We learn fast. What people valued most was crystal clear – they wanted speed, clarity and confidence in knowing they weren’t missing something important.

So why now?

Because we knew exactly what needed to be improved, and we wanted to do it properly. This rebuild was about two key things – improving the system, so it’s stable, smooth and useful, and simplifying everything around it – especially the membership.

We’ve made everything cleaner, easier to navigate and added in new features too – a way to export different events.

The timing lined up nicely too. Because we were working on the new Untamed branding we could prototype properly in Figma and test the experience end-to-end. Jack has written more about this here.

We picked up and tried again...

We weren’t complacent or give up when it didn’t work quite work as we wanted to the first time.

The Pension Calendar exists to make pensions people’s lives easier – whether you’re new to the industry, planning your budget, or just trying to stay on top of what’s happening without spending hours hunting it down. Fancy a look round? You can sign up a free trial here.
