Untamed, updated… how it really happened

We didn’t nail it first time (and I’m fine with that now)

When Darren and I brought Shula PR & Policy and Untamed Marketing together to create Untamed Consulting we tweaked a bit of the previous Untamed brand and website and cracked on with work. It was the right call at the time; clients knew it and consistency matters. In marketing you learn – decide, perfect, stick. Consistency is key! You will have heard me say that before.

Our business has grown up fast…the work, the team, the stakes. The old brand didn’t quite fit anymore… we seemed to have outgrown what we had…good bones, wrong jacket.

Confession…

I wrote the first pass of the new website on a beach in Dubai. Hair full of salt, laptop full of sand, too many ideas and not enough shade. True story.

I sat on it. I wasn’t sure of bits of it. Then Jack arrived… He wanted to add his thoughts to how we show up visually, give us proper guidelines, challenge us! I winced (letting go is hard and it needed time we didn’t have). But we let the team run with holiday scribbles… (then I went back and put my fingerprints all over it again 🙈).

But that has become a very natural rhythm now…write – share – challenge – ship. Higher trust, lower ego.

Why we changed (and why now)

The strategy has always been solid. The refresh isn’t a rethink – it’s better articulation. Untamed probably lived more in mine and Darren’s head than on the website, now it lives in a shared system the team can run with to create that all important consistency.

Hopefully you’ll see clearer paths to what we actually do and plain language that answers the ‘so what’.

How we actually made it…

Well, with Jack of course… with Jack came Figma – a system that lets you see the actual designs with the actual words before engaging a developer.

Honestly – it’s the only way to do it. A single version of the truth – pages, components, notes all in one place. No more lorem ipsum. If it didn’t work in Figma it didn’t go to build.

I think Jack can do his own blog about Figma!

What it really meant, was once we were happy with the Figma files, it was hands off and handover! Because the system is clean, the build is fast! And I mean less than 2 weeks to build and test after months of faffing in Figma! Incredible.

We didn’t change because we were bored…

We changed because our work and our business needed strong foundations, a clearer frame, a system that’s bigger than an individual. The new site should feel like we do in real life.

Have a wander… kick the tyres… tell us what you don’t like (and of course, what you do).

If your business needs this kind of clarity, drop us a line, we’d love to chat.
