Finding my voice in a growing team: Why joining Untamed Consulting was the right move.
I was sitting in my car (parked and turned off obviously – safety first!) when I got the call from Darren asking me to join the team, and I think I must have sat there for about 10 minutes stunned before texting him back yes.
Let me go back, I met Darren for the first time about a year ago now at a networking drinks event when I was interning at an investment magazine and he mentioned his new marketing consultancy.
We stayed in touch and a year later in June I reached out to Darren for some advice which then led to a last-minute video call ‘interview’ where I met Karen for the first time, where I got the first real mention of Untamed.
Did I have any real marketing experience, no… but I worked as a journalist, and conference producer so some skills carried over – it wasn’t as rash as many people think.
About me:
I started in the pensions industry when I was 16, and doing work experience for school. My dad was a pensions manager at the time, and he introduced me to the investment magazine I went back to after I finished my degree in History in 2023. From there, I took a small break but once you’re in pensions you never really leave and eventually my connections led me to Untamed.
My role:
My role is all about keeping the momentum going, planning ahead, spotting what’s coming next, and making sure everything runs smoothly. I’m hands-on across our marketing activity, from creating newsletters and publishing new articles on the Untamed site, to coordinating client campaigns and keeping content fresh. I also support the team behind the scenes with data, admin, and diary management, making sure we stay one step ahead and ready for what’s next.
Being part of a new and growing business has been a special experience for me, sometimes younger and newly qualified people feel their voice can be lost amongst experience and entrenched processes. Untamed is growing and so is the way we do things.
So, here’s to getting stuck in and the start of a special team I’m thankful I took that first call with.
